7 Deadly Sins

June 4, 2027

A colossal dark tree rises through storm clouds, hung with glowing red fruit. A monstrous red serpent with two horns is coiled around its trunk, looking at you.

The Film

The seven songs

I drew them before I made the garden.

  1. A gaunt being in a tattered black mantle with a long train. It has no head: a crooked tower of halos and broken crowns rises from its shoulders.

    013:27

    Pride

    Superbia · Aurath

It asked what was above me. It is still building.

  2. A hunched being with strongboxes and padlocks chained to its back and a padlock for a face, six thin arms wrapped around a sealed sphere.

    024:23

    Greed

    Avaritia · Molgrun

I gave it one thing to hold. It has never opened its arms to see what.

  3. Two tall robed figures fused back to back under one veil of thorns, their four long arms linked by taut black threads.

    033:18

    Lust

    Luxuria · Sevaira

I made two and gave them one veil. Neither remembers which came first.

  4. A headless armored colossus with broken swords in its back, a black sun in eclipse floating where its head should be.

    044:05

    Wrath

    Ira · Korvath

I took its head and gave it the sun. It has not needed to think since.

  5. A colossal seated figure under a black veil, melted candles on its shoulders, its robe spreading over the ground into thick roots.

    054:06

    Sloth

    Acedia · Ommun

I told it to wait here until I called. I never called.

  6. A being with limbs far too long and a cracked mirror for a face, one open eye in each raised palm, blank masks hanging from its belt.

    064:04

    Envy

    Invidia · Nhael

It has no face of its own. It has tried on everyone else's.

  7. A huge swollen being in black wrappings on impossibly thin legs, a round hole straight through its torso ringed by long ribs like teeth.

    073:56

    Gluttony

    Gula · Gorrun

It has eaten everything I made. The hole is the same size.

The fruit

A blood red fruit with a short stem and one black leaf.

You were told.

You knew.

I made you anyway.

7 Deadly Sins cover: a small tree with red fruit and a red serpent above the ground, its huge roots spreading below into seven tall shapes.
